Grandad came at an excellent time, since Tavi had just started to smile. He actually smiled for the very first time at Sylvia! After that, Mama saw most of his smiles, but with practice, he got better at it and distributed them more widely. Now, he smiles frequently! Here's a lovely photo that Kevin captured of an early smile:

Here's Grandad meeting his latest grandchild:

And here's Sylvia giving her baby brother a kissy and a huggy:

We took a trip out to Malibu so Scott could see Kevin's workplace. This is en route to the library. Not a bad view, eh?

Between the campus and the ocean, there's a park with a playground. This was during the heatwave, so it was ridiculously hot, but that didn't stop Sylvia from taking advantage of the offerings, and Grandad was a game playmate:

Mama and Tavi kept to the shade:

Grandad rode back from Malibu in the car with Mama and Tavi, and he got to experience first-hand how Tavio protests when he absolutely, positively does NOT want to be in the car seat. It took 45 minutes to get home, and he cried the whole way with only brief respites to gather his strength for another onslaught!
On the Sunday, we had our usual dinner at Grandma and Grandpa's house. Here are the two dudes hanging out:

Gathered around the table. Can you tell I'm under-slept?

On Monday, Aunty Crystal came to meet the little one and visit with Grandad. Tavio and Crystal had an immediate rapport:

Baby yawns are extra cute, for some reason:

Sylvia was happy to see Aunty Crystal when she got back from day care. She even brought her into her special place behind the hedge in our front yard:

Is this a proud Grandad or what?

Stay tuned!
